Spring Break With Flat Ben

Just before spring holiday started last April, the students of 2JK were buzy drawing their own pictures for the project during the holiday. These pictures, labeled with their own name, were then cut and laminated, and then given to another student to take home. Over the holiday period, the students were required to bring their "flat friend" whenever they go and write about their adventures together in a booklet.

Ilham was given Flat Ben to bring home. You can view Flat Ben here :D I think, the idea of having adventures with these "flat friends (as I like to term it)", were inspired by the Flat Stanley books as written by Jeff Brown. The students of grade 2 had been reading these books in their classes. I personally found the books interesting and full of adventure :D

This is Ilham's booklet and some of the stories as written by him during the one week holiday..

That's it for now.... will upload more Flat Ben stories later :D

Oh..Flat Ben is really flat.No wonder he is called flat Ben. Cute je...The project is a lesson to teach them to imagine things and helps them to be more creative in writing too. Baguslah aktiviti dorang. Sekolah Malaysia ni belajar exam oriented sgt...

Seriously Ilham surely knows how to express his feeling in the drawings. Encourage him dear. Who knows, one day he will be an architect or even doctors need to draw! In case he is interested in Medicine...that can really rescue him from a lot of headaches. Don't be like me,fumbling how to draw images in microscope and bones structure during my Med school! hahaha...

Hi TK,

This activity is very simple, teachers can apply it in M'sia, whether in English or BM. It is an interesting change from the normal "Aku sebatang pen...". When reading samples of essays recently, I am surprised that we still have that topic he..he.., though I'm not sure whether teachers & students do that essays in class.

Teachers here don't mind what the kids write or whether the handwriting is nice or not.. or whether the spelling is right or not. What they want is for the child to express their feeling in the writing. Spelling & whatnots will be corrected in time.

Huh.. panjang lebar pulak :D

He..he.. dear Nana,

At the moment it's hard to imagine him in medical profession or mathletic for that matter :D, coz he seems having problems on memorizing!! Even multiplications is stressful to him!!

But he sure fancy himself good in drawing:D Let's just say that I have seen more talented kid ha..ha..

But we do encourage him in drawing.. I believe no matter how good u are in Math/Science/Medicine professons, we need the other elements like arts & music to balance things out. It is also a way of expressing your tensions!!!

I cannot imagine myself drawing bone structure!!!
