Little Van Goghs

I love paintings, no I think it is more appropriate if I say I love looking at paintings especially if they are scenery, flowers and things of beauty, anything that I can understand or relate to. I do not appreciate abstract or some modern paintings because I do not understand what the artists are trying to convey... they are too complicated for me. But I sure love looking at children's artworks !!!

At the ISA, we have the opportunity to view children's artworks be it from kindergarten to upper school students. In Kindergarten, they learn the various technics of using acrylic paint on canvas/paper and such.... and they try to paint Van Gogh's inspired famous paintings such as The Sunflower etc. They would also visit the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam as part of their art lessons. Going to the museum give them a chance to view the real paintings and also a chance for them to run around at the nearby park (Museumplein) afterwards !!!

Every year, an exhibition of the kinder kids artworks will be displayed for parents to see and each time I look forward to view their artworks !! It never fail to amaze me how these 5/6 year olds, can produce such beautiful and unique work of arts !!

The following are photos that I have taken from last year's exhibition displayed sometime in March 2010 :-

The children were asked to give appropriate names for their artworks, and the names that come to my mind are among others:- Happy Flower, Pinky Flower, Sunflower, Yellow Flower, Rosey, Amazing, Lulu, Summer, Greeny and Sad Flower. Such original names they are :D

A friend's son was in one the kindergarten class and the boy, according to his mother did not like painting and other artworks. He had given his artwork the name of Angry Flower. Obviously the name and the artwork reflected his angry mood. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember which one is his work. Maybe we can take a good guess :D

I pun suka tengok art exhibition. My personal favorite artists are Picasso, Van Gogh and Monet. Love the creative touch of Picasso, I can relate to some of Van Gogh's sad stories and also Monet's impressionist touch. It's good to encourage the kids to draw and imagine. Wish Malaysian government would support art more...:(

Dear Aishah,

Your guess is probably correct. I will check with the boy's mum on Tuesday, she is coming over to pay me a visit.

It's amazing how astute children are. The name Sad Flower does describe the painting isn't it :D

Dear Nana,

You shame me he..he..he.. I'm not an avid art fan. The name of Picasso and Monet are familiar, unfortunatly their works are not, but I'm sure that I have come accros photos of their work before!!

But I do love some of Van Gogh's works. I bought this book "Van Gogh Painter - The Masterpieces" at the museum last year, an amazing book, there are infos on when, where and how the paintings were made etc.. Van Gogh had wonderful sibling, his brother and sister-in-law believed in him and his paintings and their family made sure his works were known after his death.

Dear Mama Cats,

I love Starry Night and the Almond Blossom!!! Does the song refer to Almond Blossom?? It is white/pinkish flowers though but with blue background...

I would love to bring you to the museum, hopefully i get to go again in April when dear friend and sister come :) But the museum is a nofun place for photographer... they do not allow us to take pictures!!!!

Mother of Ilham,
The song refers to Van Gogh's tragic life. My Mama said she learned about Van Gogh in her English class and the teacher used that song as the intro. There's a Malaysian artist who paints in similar strokes as Van Gogh and Mama bought one of his works....can't afford Van Gogh's though. purrr....meow!

Dear Mama Cats,

At the museum, they sell Van Gogh's works painted by other artists at less than euro100, depending on the sizes (kalau x salah less than 50 euro pun ada) :D

Dear Mokjadeandell,

Welcome to our humble blog.

Ehhehh... malu pulak nak mengaku :D Sorry, saya tak faham komen Mokjadeandell... P&P dan PSV tu apa ya?? He..he.. saya bukan cikgu :D Anyway, TQ for visiting.

P&P in PSV is teaching and learning activities in arts lessons.jarang nak jumpa kesungguhan dalam subject ini.Arts is considered as a filler subject saja dan tentulah hasilnya dapat diagak.
