Snow Fighting In School

No one really likes the snow more than the kids. Here is Ilham and friends snow fighting in school at pick-up time.

I'm glad that he is enjoying himself :D

Seronoknya Main Salji

Inilah akibatnya bila banyak entri yang tak dikemas kini dalam blog. Entri pun dah mula berterabur, yang dulu dikemudiankan, yang kemudian didahulukan, dah tak ada aturan. Tapi bila difikirkan, memang dari awal blog ni dibuat pun dah macam tu he..he..he..

Apapun dibawah ni adalah gambar2 Ilham semasa main salji dengan kawan2 pada 17 Disember, hari terakhir persekolahan sebelum cuti Krismas. Ingat nak letak sama ngan video main salji hari tu, tapi video upload tu punya la lama, sakit jiwa dibuatnya. Proses nak upload gambar2 ni pun tergendala beberapa hari, semuanya gara-gara USB external drive yang "kapot"(bahasa Dutch untuk rosak) hari tu. Alhamdulillah, DH hantaq kedai kut :), semalam bawa balik dah ok :D

Ilham nampak seronok sangat hari tu, tu yang nak juga diabadikan gambar2 tu di blog ni :D Sememangnya Ilham memang suka bermain, kalau boleh nak yang lasak2 je... yang lawan2... yang kejar2... yang gomol2... dalam kata lain, tipikal budak lelaki. Yang tak tahannya bila dia asyik jatuh, bukan jatuh betul pun, saja je nak golek2, lari sikit... golek, orang tackle je...golek, ada aja alasan dia nak bergolek.... :D

Snow Fight On The Last Day Of School

What a great day to end the school term. We woke up on Friday morning to a white blanket of snow again. The first wave of snow at the end of November only lasted for a few days, but it was heavy enough to cancel a few trains. It was funny really, the snow was so heavy on Saturday, and yet by Sunday morning, the temperature had risen to 4 celcius, causing the snow to start melting. For the rest of the week, we had to tolerate the icy and slippery road.

But this time, it's been snowing steadily since Thursday night until today. It was fun walking to school on Friday morning in the snow. We were late, but I was not worried because I expect a lot of students would be late as well :D

My 2 friends and I were planning to have breakfast in The Hague, but because of the heavy snow, we changed our plan, worried that we might not arrive back in time to collect our children. So we went to the nearby mega supermarket to shop and had breakfast there. When we got back to school at 12 o'clock, the children were having fun playing snow fight. Among them I could see some of the teachers as well.


We stayed for a little while to let Ilham snow sledding on the dunes in the school area. Unlike our previous place in Amsterdam, here we have to drive in order to get to sledding area, so its not very convenient. At our old place, the small "hill" was only 3 minutes walk away....

First Snow Of The Year

Huhuu... the first snow has fallen yesterday !!! In November !!!

Ilham was very excited, kept looking out the window...

This morning, he wanted to be the first to step on the fresh snow.

Snow and Fun, Fun, Fun

It has been amost three weeks since my last posting and it's not because I didn't have time to write, but it's simply because of internet problems. It's very frustrating !!! Somehow I feel lost when I couldn't read the news and of course those blogs I frequently visit :)

Anyway, so many things have happenned in the last two weeks. Ilham fell off the bike on the slippery snow turned ice on the first day back to school. Luckily there was no car at the time and no injury either. We were still in the housing area when it happened but that's where the danger is. The area was slippery because of the ice, once you were on the "fietspad" or cycling path, the road was free of snow/ice.

During the first week of January more snow had fallen. In fact, right now there is still snow in our garden and the opened space but it's starting to melt now. It was snowing heavily one day, when we were going home from school. It's an interesting experience cycling on the fresh snow, the sound of crunching ice accompanied us as we pedaled along and sometimes you could hardly see as the snow flakes kept getting into the eyes. The normally 15 minute journey took almost 45 minutes to reach home, longer because someone kept stopping to play in the snow and of course the photography sessions....

Winter Sonata

It's been a week since the second snowfall and what a lot of snow it was. Apparently Holland had not had this much of snow for quite some time, some said for 20 years and some even said since they were small. My elderly Dutch neighbour said that "it was so unusual to have this much of snow". It was heavy enough to cause cancellations and disruptions to the train schedules on Monday and I'm sure it was the same snow which had caused chaos to the Eurostar services.

But for us, the snow was like a dream come true. That Sunday morning, my dear husband had promised to bring a new Malaysian family to the Turkish market in Beverwijk, a smaller town north of Amsterdam. So, off he went driving slowly in the snow with a promise to come home early. By midday, more and more snow had fallen and its a shame that Ilham didn't have anybody else to enjoy and play in the snow. I persuaded my dear husband to shorten his trip and bring the family to our home instead, so the kids can play together, which he did. We had a wonderful time taking pictures around the area, making snowman and joining the kids in the snow fights. Walking slowly back home, Ilham was suddenly hit by a snowball thrown by a Dutch kid. The startled children rallied back and all signs of tiredness disappeared as they vigorously attacked the 2 kids. Of course the Dutch kids were outnumbered, it was five, including the mothers :) against two.

It was truly a beautiful day and it was certainly the bestest day for Ilham.....

It's Snowing !!!

We woke up on Thursday morning to see a blanket of white snow everywhere . It's snowing !!! How wonderful !!! When Ilham and I arrived in Amsterdam December 22nd last year, it was freezingly cold and soon after that the canals were frozen, but there were no snow. Yes, there were frost and sleet, but there were no snow !! It's amazing because last week on Friday, the temperature was still around 10/9 celcius, and on Saturday it dropped to 5 and now it's minus 1/0 celcius.

After a quick breakfast, we both went out to the nearby field to fulfill our own agendas: me - to get some pictures and Ilham - to play with the snow :) Ohh... it's so beautiful. The snow was not as thick as I wanted it to be but it's still serene and beautiful. My mood was spoiled by the fact that the battery was exhausted :( and I couldn't capture the scenic view but I promised myself to come back, afterall it's only walking distance from the house.

But Ilham had fun cycling and kicking the snow at the same time, he even pretended to slip and fall on the slippery snow a few times. As if I didn't know the tactic :) It's a pity that we didn't have a sleigh, he had to make do by sliding using his shoes.

When we got home, Ilham was greeted by a snow ball thrown by our neighbour. That started the snow fight and it went on for quite a while. Our Dutch neighbour was a very nice person. The fact that he couldn't speak English and my own Dutch was limited to "Goede morgen, hoe gaat het met je ?", never stopped him from greeting me every time we met.

It's been a wonderful day, it's even more special for the fact that Maal Hijrah 1431 is on Friday 18th. What a nice way to greet the new year. I just hope that the year ahead will be as pure and as white and unblemished as the white snow for our family, InsyaAllah.
